Oleksandr Kravchenko focused on Ukraine's strategic mineral potential and its relevance in today's shifting geopolitical and trade landscape. He provided a general overview of Ukraine's mineral reserves, and explored related historical developments, including during the Soviet era. Furthermore, he assessed which resources hold particular importance for the US and EU. Deep dives into titanium and graphite highlighted Ukraine's competitive advantages, ongoing projects, and potential for international collaboration. Oleksandr also examined the key enablers needed to unlock this sector’s full potential and discussed the role of mineral development in supporting Ukraine’s broader defense industrial base.
Oleksandr is the Managing Partner at McKinsey’s Kyiv office and co-leads the firm’s Materials Practice in Central Europe. He advises clients in the energy and materials sectors on strategy development and large-scale transformation programs. Since the onset of the full-scale war, Oleksandr has also supported the public sector in Ukraine on crisis response and recovery planning – particularly in unlocking the country’s potential in critical energy and mineral sectors. He holds an MBA from London Business School.
