Mission Statement Possible Agenda

At the MIT Murray Lab, we believe in the transformative power of innovation and entrepreneurship to tackle pressing global challenges and foster peace and stability. Our confidence is rooted in our rich history of technological breakthroughs. The dedication of our students, colleagues, and broader community has consistently led to the creation of new innovation-driven enterprises (IDEs), the enhancement of innovation ecosystems, and the promotion of positive social and economic impacts. In today’s increasingly complex geopolitical environment, coupled with the critical role of science and technology-driven innovation, it is essential for entrepreneurs, ecosystem builders, and policymakers to have a deep understanding of geopolitical dynamics and the contested nature of their activities in innovation and entrepreneurship.

We invite both academics and practitioners to engage in collaborative, research-based discussions that focus on critical questions shaping global entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems. These questions include the impact of complex geopolitics on entrepreneurship, how innovation can bolster peace, security, and resilience, and the challenges of navigating sovereignty and alliances in innovation.

Lab Platform Network Community

Our approach mirrors the dynamic and exploratory nature of traditional lab group meetings, where we critique and build upon research at the nexus of innovation, entrepreneurship, and geopolitics. Our research spans topics like innovation ecosystems, stakeholder management utilizing our MIT five stakeholder model, and IDE, with a particular focus on deep tech enterprises.

Our discussions often involve comparative analyses across different countries or ecosystems, such as various IDEs or risk capital approaches, including new fund designs under public, private, or mixed sponsorship like the NATO Innovation Fund. We also delve into specific challenges like defense/security or energy/food security and explore strategic organizational changes in science and technology (S&T), particularly in areas like Quantum, Engineering Biology, AI, and Semiconductors. Additionally, we examine how foundational S&T expertise can spur growth in new markets, exemplified by India’s evolving participation in the space race, and its implications for international political dynamics.
